Default Spider wheel cover removal

Hi everyone. Long time lurker but first question. My new to me '39 conv sedan has full wheel covers that I'm having trouble removing. Can't see a way off without damage. I'm replacing tires with DBs so the question. Thank you. Paul.

There is a raised lip at the point where the standard hubcaps stop. You put the hubcap removal tool under that lip. Do NOT pry on the "spokes" outside that lip.

I use a wooden dowel from the inside. Catch the lip and tap. Have a friend there to catch the cap.

The tire tool worked perfectly! Thank you both for replying. Later I will compose a proper introduction for myself and the car as I would like to see if it's a "known" car. Thanks again.

Here's the tool I made. A simple slide hammer pulls the hub cap from the front rather than pushing from behind. No helper needed. Hook it, tap-tap and done.

Strange that Ford carried over the 38 deluxe design for 1939 for the spider accessory hubcaps instead of using the new 39 deluxe pattern.

I would take a wild guess that as the economy was lagging, an overstock of ‘38 accessory spiders factored into that decision.

When I had my 36 I found that a paint cad lid remover worked and was kept in the glove box.
