Default Tool question

For the adjustable wench in the tool kit for 1929, was it painted? I looked in the new judging standards, and it does not state the finish on them.

Thanks for the help
Jon

Yes, it was painted Black Lacquer or Black Japan Baking Enamel as stated on page 17-1 Revised 1997 first paragraph under "GENERAL" in Area 17----Tools.

In simple terms the answers are correct. However to add a bit of detail (some folks care about), the adjusting screw was blued steel and the axes pin for that was either plain or nickel plated. I haven't disassembled one to check for sure but all mine look like nickel. Yes, they were assembled after paint.

Although ostensibly highlighting the technical illustration capabilities of Bob Bidonde, pages 12 through 15 of the November-December 1975 issue of "The Restorer" has a reasonable illustration and written description of the Model "A" Ford tools, including design/production changes and finish (although to be fair, not in the detail Marco has included above; for example the finish information for the adjustable wrench is given as "...in February 1928 it's plain finish was changed to black paint...").
