Unhappy Idling Issue 1931 Tudor

Hi, Ford Barn! While visiting my Grandparents for Christmas, I have fixed the horn (it now sounds beautiful) and installed the carburetor that I refurbished. The car runs great, but WILL NOT idle properly. It will rev OK but starts to pop when it revs down to idle (even with choke all the way in). It pops and sputters at idle and without the idle speed set higher than normal, it won't stay running. It acts too rich all the way until the screw is all the way in, then it dies! I'm wondering if the idle adjustment screw is worn down too much? What is going on? Thanks!

By any chance us the GAV needle valve disconnected from the GAV rod? I had that happen and the idling behavior improved a lot when I reconnected the two.

Congratulations on the horn improvement!

Where is the GAV set. Engine should be warm, GAV open about a quarter turn, THEN adjust idle screw. Are you sure you don't have a leak at the manifolds??

Well, it turns out, the idle speed was the problem. I set it too high which was causing issues. I tightened up the bolts on the carburetor, the manifold, and re-set the mixture screw, and lowered the idle speed, and it's running great! Just drove it around town with no problems and a loud horn!

What you have done is how you learn about this car. While the barn is a great resource of information and expertise nothing replaces turning those wrenches. Good luck with a great looking car.
