Fender Skirt Gasket
Can someone share how fender skirt rubber gaskets are attached to the back of OEM fender skirts?
As always, Thank you in advance! Steve Last edited by 38convsedan; 03-28-2023 at 05:07 PM. |

Re: Fender Skirt Gasket
Although I’m guessing some earlier years would be similar…

Re: Fender Skirt Gasket
I'm curious what you find. I am pondering adding skirts to my car and will need to know how to hold the reproduction gaskets on also.

Re: Fender Skirt Gasket
Ok…so I think I figured it out. The gasket rests in an area along outer edge on back of skirt. There are four small holes in that outer lip area for the provided brads (came with rubber gaskets). I just lined up the gasket, then pushed brads through gasket and into the holes.

Re: Fender Skirt Gasket
Too bad that design, didn't carry over to the 53' Merc skirts. They are simply push on, so I used super trim adhesive and they are holding.

Re: Fender Skirt Gasket
Merc Cruzer, thanks for the information. I suspect I may have to go the trim adhesive route, my skirts are early aftermarket not actual 38 Ford manufactured skirts (but they sure look correct if you don't get out a tape measure).
38convsedan, when you get a chance please post pictures of the skirts on your car. I'd love to see what a stock 38 Convertible Sedan / Phaeton looks like with factory correct skirts. |

Re: Fender Skirt Gasket
This is what I used. Apply the adhesive to both the rubber and the metal, wait 10 minutes then put the rubber on the metal.

Re: Fender Skirt Gasket
I like that. 38convsedan thank you for the pictures.
Now I need to get my skirts painted, seals glued on, and installed on my car. Thanks again to both 38convsedan and Merc Cruzer for sharing on my side track of the original thread discussion. |
