Lucas ,made in Vietnam, and the Excelsior tires are Nylon cord, not polyester.
Try Coker or Jegs, the latter has a discount offer for Excelsior. The Euro's are headquartered near Copenhagen, De. but not sure where the tires are constructed.

88. each and 10. oversize charge. free shipping

with NJ tax, 105. each

didnt think anything out there could be bought at this price.

do have a gripe about Jegs shipping........... so they charge you an extra 10. per tire for oversize, but they put each one in a huge box, that could easily hold two?


and I wonder why America is run so inefficiently............ people are getting dumber by the minute! lol

A few years ago, a couple of our club members were visiting Snyders and watched as an order for Australia was being prepared for shipping. They couldn't believe how the staff had no idea how the way they packed it made such a huge difference to the final cost for their customer. They had things like brake drums packed in a box with nothing else. Our guys asked why they don't fill the gap inside the drum with some of the smaller items. Turns out, no one, not even the managers had thought of it. They all set to and reduced the number of parcels by about 60%. I doubt the lesson learned is still told to new staff.
That said, don't feel America is special in this regard. We have a plentiful supply of people like that. Do want any of them???

To my knowledge, none of the tires listed in this thread, except the ones mentioned in post #8. are radials.

Thanks for that, Mr Cylinder! The choice of tyres here is very limited and not getting any better. I guess retailers can only justify carrying a limited range when there is a notion that tyres should not be more than 10 years old.

radials fetch a good bit more. aside from the radials performing better, Im not a fan of the look.
The excelsiors I bought have a very sturdy sidewall and are fine for the price. how long they last I dont know, but I dont drive as much as I would like anyway.
If youre doing major touring, then I would start looking at the european classics or better.

I think our long distance trips towing a camper would qualify for "major touring". For those trips, I now use 16" wheels and radial tyres for light trucks. That way, I get the mileage and weight carrying capacity. Original Model A wheels keep breaking.

ok, so I mounted 2 last night. first one nearly killed me. took an hour and was the toughest tire I ever mounted. the sidewalls are pretty thick.


2nd one I used dawn soap on the beads and had it on in 10 minutes.


went to fill them up and first one I pinched the tube! so back at it today!

Not sure what you don't like about the look of Radial tires. But to each his own.

I installed my American Classic Radials a couple of months ago and the car sure handles and rides better. Worth the price, so far.

????? Maybe you haven't seen the "Model A" radials...They are the same size as the bias ply tires and look pretty much like any other tire on a Model A but the handling is very much improved. My main driver has radials but the other 3 have biased plys for now but when they need tires they will get radials for sure.
By the way, I don't care for the looks of the 16" wheels on an A either...

Bias ply tires with a "V" speed rating. For those who drive over 100 mph . Look period correct for 16" wheels. Cheaper than radials but still pricey. Only comment I could find mentioned stiff, harsh riding.

Kewanee Green (lower) and Elkpoint Green (upper), Tacoma Cream wheels. I'm not sure if they are 100% accurate to original tho.

What is the overall diameter of the 4.50-19 tire? Most Model A tires are 4.75 /500-19.

I have Lucas tires that were made in England for $99.99 3 years ago,now $119.00,they are doing fine so far,they replaced the Sears Allstate tires from 1960 that still would hold air but were very cracked on the sidewalls.
