Mac,

I don't know how old you are, but I hope hope that you have an "apprentice" that you're passing you're knowledge to. You are to be commended for your work, Mac.

Red, let's say that I am a mature/seniorish citizen. Let's generalize that without going into specifics.....69 last year and 71 next. That'll keep ya guessing lol. You fellows coming to the school will meet my two associates, who are instrumental in keeping things going smoothly at the shop. Nobody is here forever and I do want the knowledge to not only keep alive here, but it spread it out somewhat. Based on the ever-increasing workload at our shop, I believe the need for knowledgeable restoration skills will continue for some time. Our focus is obviously on the transmissions, but similar skills are at play in other specialties. I hope others can try to pass it on too.

This is a rare opportunity that I'd love to attend, but unfortunately my entire month of September is already planned and cannot be changed. My question is....could this training event be video taped and made available at some fee for those who are unable to attend this training opportunity for various reasons?

Thank you Mac for doing a "transmission school" and sharing your knowledge.

Will the day come when you will offer "transmission workshops" like Gene Winfield does
for metal working and chopping tops? His workshops are 2-3 days and folks pay to attend.

This could not have come at a better time for me.

My buddy and I just picked up approx. 10 top loader cases, 15 side shift donors and literally a 1/2 ton of transmission parts (gears, main shafts, bearings, tops, etc).

Looking forward to learning from one of the best in the biz.

I was able to put my trans together using Mac's book. I'm sure seeing his process in person will make the next few I do even better.

Kudos, Mac. Looking forward to it.

Okay fellows…..we’re definitely on for the school. The training days are September 13-14. This means travel day is Tuesday the 12th and your return would be Friday the 15th. Plan on 8am to 4pm on Wednesday and Thursday. Lunch will be provided by us. The gears are starting to turn (catchy phrase right?) to make this a fun and interesting experience. We still have some openings to fill so please contact me if you’re interested.

I will post the details for the hotel options very soon. If you’re traveling by car, the shop and hotel are in the Milford, Ohio area ( right off I-275 at Route 28). If you’re planning to fly by commercial airline, you’d fly into Greater Cincinnati Airport located in Covington, Kentucky. Private pilots can fly to the Cincinnati Lunken Airport, or into Clermont County Airport.

We’re excited to move this into the real planning stages now and look forward to seeing everyone. More details will be posted soon.

Diagnosis of transmission internal problems has always been my weakest talent. Manual transmission dis-assembly, inspection, parts acquisition, proper re-assembly protocols are issues I’ve never mastered. Your tutorial would have been very helpful in the past when I had a critical need to know what to look for and how to repair. However, I’ve lost patience with old car ownership for various legitimate reasons and won’t be doing this type of maintenance anymore. I fully appreciate your efforts to keep the hobby going with manual transmission education. Would be even greater if presented for all to benefit on YouTube episodes. Thanks very much.

The focus of the meeting is to pass as much hands on training as possible in two action packed days. A video would have to be setup entirely differently. I don’t feel that both could be done simultaneously with the same quality. So unfortunately that will not occur.

The class is filling up rapidly. If anyone else wants to sign up, please do so as soon as possible. Thanks to everyone who has decided to come to the event.

Just Damn Mac. I'm a few years late for such a class, at my tender age. Also, my crooked hands and fingers keep me from sticking them into tight places such as early Ford transmission cases. They are also affected with diabetic neuropathy which affects feelings so I drop things a lot. I'm afraid I won't be able to attend but I will certainly miss seeing Alice again, but, such are the vicissitudes of life, especially for us old folks. It is awesome that you are willing to set aside some of your valuable time and talents to teach would be mechanics how to work on their own cars. You are to be highly commended for planning to conduct this in depth two day seminar on transmissions. But then, that's just the kind of guy you are. Wishing you great success with this venture. Lawson

wow Mac, that's very cool. Have you thought about videotaping the session and offering it for sale to those that can't make the trip? Just a suggestion.

Just a short reminder to everyone who registered for the school…….don’t forget to make your hotel reservation before August 12th in order to get the group rate. The link for the Holiday Inn group rate is in the thread.

Also, if you’ve registered and have discovered that you are not able to attend, please contact me asap. We do have a few names on the alternate list that we want to be able to extend the invite if possible. Thanks!

Mac, I find this very commendable on your part. To offer this type of knowledge on your part, and time, is great. I hope that you fill the class with people that will appreciate your donation of time and effort.

The preparations for the training school are well underway. I have been in touch with the Holiday Inn Express in Milford, Ohio where we had blocked off rooms for the event. The cut-off date for the special rates was Aug 12th but we asked them to extend that for one more week. If you have not made your reservations yet, please try to confirm them before Aug 17th, after which the room rates will go up. It is not required that you stay at this location but this is where we are picking up and dropping each day of the school. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. We are looking forward to seeing everyone! Thanks.
