Crankshaft ratchet nut dimensions
Hello guys, happy easter again ...
Can someone tell me the dimensions of the nut? I need the wrench size and the height of the screw head with the ratchet claws. I want to build a cap for a measuring device. Greetings from Berlin Andy |

Re: Crankshaft ratchet nut dimensions
Wrench size is typically 1-3/8, but it's not uncommon for a car to present with a replacement nut with size 1-1/4, 1-1/2, or some other random measurement, so you should double-check your own.

Different sizes? That would be annoying...
It's just very difficult to measure. |

Re: Crankshaft ratchet nut dimensions
I want to thank you again for the help. Was able to remove the sensor adapter from the 3D printer today. Fits like a glove.

I have a Dewalt 1-3/8” socket that works well. You put the socket over the ratchet nut and then you run an extension through the crank hole into the socket. Then you can rotate it with a wrench or breaker bar from in front of the car. That particular socket seems to be discontinued, so you might need some trial and error to find an SAE or metric socket that works for your particular car. |

Re: Crankshaft ratchet nut dimensions
I have a 1-3/8" socket that I got somewhere, but I had to square off the open end in the lathe, and bevel the shoulder of the socket, to get it to drop into the cavity of the crank pulley. I use a 1/2" male to 3/8" female adapter, then a 3/8" drive extension to go through the crank bracket and radiator housing as I found a 1/2" drive extension won't make the bend to the socket on some cars. I also have a 1/2" drive wobble extension that I picked up at Harbor Fright that works. A 1/2" drive universal joint would work as well but I don't have one.
