49 F1 Brake issue

Truck pulls sharply to the left when applying the brakes, assuming the right brake is not functioning. I have no experience with brake repair, where should I begin this investigation. Any help will be appreciated

You'll have to pull the wheel & drum & have a look in there for signs of wheel cylinder leakage. The old type brakes aren't self adjusting types. There may be wear or lining contamination problems.

Old age. They can collapse internally, thereby “necking down”on ID and causing a restriction. I once chased this issue on a brand new hose that was improperly manufactured also.

Check the keft front brake for leaks if the car is pulling to the left.

Buy some new cylinders and hoses and fit them. They're cheap. If the shoes are good re-use them.
You need to tackle this job because you need to build up the familiarity with the old stuff if you want to drive with confidence.

Inspect both sides and only dismantle one side. Then you have the complete side as a pattern if you can't see how it goes back together.
To be honest, that is one of the simplest setups there is so would be a good one to have a go at if it is your first time.

Looks like the brake shoes are backwards, short shoe should be on the front.

Just bought the truck, last owner had it for 48 years... I don't know when the brakes for looked at.....

JT, you can get a simple set of tools for the brakes, there is a doodad that winds the springs off and helps you slip them on.

These pliers have the ends like the tools you need. Go to your local auto parts place and ask for old type brake tools.

The round end takes the springs off and the shaped end puts them on.

if you don,t know any thing about brakes bring it to some one that doe.s. that,s a bendix brake any repair shop is fermelia with them. brakes are nothing to fool with

Yes, on Bendix brakes, short shoe toward the front.

Sounds like a wear problem. Have you backed the adjusters on that wheel all the way off?
