Default Chasing noises

A number of years ago, as part of my power brake system I installed a (GM) power booster air filter.
Last fall, one day upon engine startup I noticed a muffled tapping noise coming from the general area of the floor hump, near the firewall.
One thing I noticed was that when I applied the brakes the noise went away.
Satified that it was not engine related, I continued to drive it while chasing possible rattles etc.
Then I removed the booster filter and ran it that way.
Success, the noise was gone and a new filter was installed,
I cut the old filter apart and found that it was filled with round bead filter material that over time had fused together (from oil, gas etc.) to form a piston of sorts that accounted for the noise.

Neat. Aren't you glad you cut it apart?
