Default 47 ford pickup cowl vent seal

Hi guys can anyone tell me if the cowl vent seal on a 47 ford pickup is attached to the cowl or the vent door , why I ask is my truck did not have a seal when I got it and to glue it to the vent door it is to long and wide . Plus if I sit the seal in the tray where the vent door shuts into the and you close the vent it sits up as if the seal wont compress . does the vent door simply sit on top of the seal? I have used a Denis Carpenter seal . is there a better fitting softer seal out there? any help would be great
cheers Robin Gregory

It goes in the tray area of the body. New ones will eventually compress but when first installed the are swelled up and hold the lid up alittle. If you can get it closed completely try parking it in the sun light.

Thats when i have run into with a carpenter seal. Not sure if there is a better one to use

Believe it is fairly common to have to trim the height (off the bottom side). As already stated, they mount into the cowl.
