Default Main caps.

Ok engine gurus.
First ,I know that the drivers side ,in the USA is always the left side. That being said, my eng has been into before and I'm getting ready to install the crank.
Now comes the problem. # 1 main cap has the Diamond on it facing one way and the #2 cap is the other way.Do the diamonds mean any thing? Caps are not marked .
I should have noticed when I removed the crank, and I may have mistakenly put the caps backwards. Now is the time to correct it, and accept the blame. Please help.
Thanks,
jim

I would install the caps one at a time with some Prussian Blue on the crank to see if you are getting a full bearing with even color if not turn the cap around and check again. They may be ok either way but since you did not note the direction this would be a safe way to know.

Almost all engines I've taken apart have the triangle on the camshaft side. I guess you would say it was pointing away from the camshaft. Also, the front main did not have a radius on the front side which tells you which way it goes.

Thanks ,I guess I need glasses more than I realize. There are 2 small pin pricks on the # 2 main as well as the block, same for the #1. I guess when it was rebabbited they chose to install them different. At least one is the way you guys say. I have used Plasti gauge and I have.0015 for the center,.0010 for the rear. Installed another single shim and waiting to ck that. Waiting on a call from my Daughter. Didn't want to miss. Thanks,
jim

I would leave it the way it has been run in, even if backward.

First, you have to look at the bearing not the diamond. The front cap will have a chamfer on only one side. The flat side goes to the front. I always point the tip of the diamond at the cam when I line bore one. If the diamond is pointing to the cam after figuring out it's proper orentation, match the direction on the center. Maybe this helps.
