Unusual May 28 Fordor taillight bracket - interested in your opinion
Here are 2 pictures of a taillight bracket that was on a May 28 Fordor Sedan that I used to own. Most taillight bracket that I've seen are round. This one was round on the front edge and flat on the back edge.
I was told by 2 guys who had retored early-28 cars that my bracket was probably an aftermarket or repo part. I'm not sure that I agree, as the car was very original. I am wondering if this might have been a proto type and only a few ended up in production. Have any of your guys seen a bracket like this before? |

The 60A had a tail light bracket that was unique to that car only, and that is it. It was different then the one on the tudor sedan .

Neil,
I like it! I have one with the same number, but it doesn't have the flat back side....or the notch at the base. Neat! I also see it has no counter bores on the base. |

For some reason most folks aren't seeing how the back side is flattened with corners running along the back the entire length of the arm. I've sure never seen one like it but can't imagine is a replacement of any type.

Re: Unusual May 28 Fordor taillight bracket - interested in your opinion
I'm not sure how the brackets were made.
Was hot metal poured into some type of form? If so, it is possible that not enough metal was poured into it and it turned out flat on the back? I know that is is different from the norm, but I agree with Marco that it is probably not a replacement part. I was hoping that one of you guys had a Fordor that had a taillight bracket with the same flat edge. |

Re: Unusual May 28 Fordor taillight bracket - interested in your opinion
Been in the hobby since 1962 and have never seen a flat back bracket. However, it does not seem reasonable that someone would go to the expense to duplicate a bracket that there would not be a big demand ? Just my opinion.

The cross section looks to be round to me. I think you may be looking at the parting line formed by the forging dies. The line that is visible just below the part number does make that area appear to be a corner, but I don't believe that is the case.

I know exactly what you mean. I wish there was a better picture of the bracket Neil used to own, but without paint, and maybe a different angle.
