Default Speedo cable

On my new purchase the car had broken speedo cable. Replaced with new insert. That lasted 18 miles. I noticed the outer cable spiral was once possibly slightly kinked at both ends then tape covering the split cable. Replaced the entire cable assembly. That lasted 80 miles before it broke. All 3 times the insert was broken at the tranny end. What could be the problem?

PS when working the speedo is smooth running and not jumpy or noisy

Email Leonard he rebuilt my speedometer head, resealed it, new glass, new bezel, and painted it. Works great. Mine stopped and broke the cable also, no jumping, no noise, was working fine and just stopped. Sent it to Leonard, fast repair and return.

Thanks for the advise. I was gonna check into the speedo itself if I didn't get advice for a sure fix. I should have no problem with doing that myself.

Same issue, breaking at the turtle end on the tranny. Happened shortly after getting my A after a 50 year storage nap. For a couple of minutes fluctuated wildly, then nothing. Had to have the speedo serviced and a new cable. All the lube had dried up/congealed and forced the cable to jam, seem mostly when that happens the cable breaks at the tranny end.

If being used, if they get noisy/jumpy, you can try forcing some oil/lube down the cable from the speedometer end if it is the cable. Otherwise the speedo has to be serviced.
