Shell Oil Canister
Hi,
I have a glass Shell oil canister on the firewall of my A. It is plumbed into the intake manifold. I can't seem to find any info out there on it. My question is what is it for and do I need it? Thanks, Andrew |

Re: Shell Oil Canister
I’m thinking someone used it for a vacuum storage tank for a vacuum wipe wipe motor. That would keep the wipers going when under heavy engine loads and the vacuum normally drops off.Dont need it in my opinion. Dennis

Re: Shell Oil Canister
Well I didn’t read your post close enough the first time and thought it was a metal canister.Maybe it’s some sort of water injector to help remove carbo from the combustion chambers.Just a guess.

Re: Shell Oil Canister
If the pipe connecting it to the manifold has a valve in it, I'm guessing it was for an automatic feed for upper cylinder lubricant direct into the manifold. It was quite a common thing for years.

Re: Shell Oil Canister
None of the above guesses as to what it is are essential functions so you can safely remove it and block off the hole in the manifold.

Re: Shell Oil Canister
I would be tempted to put some Marvel Mystery Oil in the jar and see what happens to how the car runs...There were lots of these systems made...this sounds like a home made one...might work nice! Many of us do run Marvel Mystery Oil one way or another. Ernie in Arizona
