Opinion on running Mixed match rear drums
I am working on a project and currently in the process of assembling my rear end. I currently have a very good condition stamped steel rear brake drum and hub assembled together that is measuring .141 thickness. I also was able to find another complete drake drum and hub from a local Model A'er that is from a late 1931 and is the cast drum in really good condition as well. So my question is what issues should i be concerned with running a stamped steel drum and a cast drum on the rear? Or should i be good?
I started this venture with purchasing a set of cast drums and went down the path with having a local machine shop install them on my hubs. Unfortunately that process did not go so well and both drums cracked during the install process and are not good. Thanks |

It is not the best idea in the world.
Definately not recommended for the front. My opinion Chris. W |

Re: Opinion on running Mixed match rear drums
The project I am working on is a modified T with the Model A rear so I am not planning on running front brakes.

In that case, definitely NO. You will get more braking with the cast drum than the steel one. I'm sure you would end up turned around so quickly, you'll end up looking at yourself. Using miss matched drums like that is, IMO a scary prospect. You did the right thing to ask before you did it.

Re: Opinion on running Mixed match rear drums
That machine shop should be buying you a pair of cast iron drums. They should have stopped when they cracked the first one.
