welcome to the barn! I also have a 1929 pickup. Hope you’re not too tall or heavy because there sure isn’t much room in the cab.

yes being 6' tall i find its easyer getting in and out the passenger side - plus that door opens and closes better!

Re: new to the model a/forum
That’s a pretty straight ‘ol Pickup! Being 6’2” and a wee bit more than 230 lbs I was struggling to figure out how I would ever drive my ‘30 when it was done. I’d shortened the clutch and break peddles on my Coupe which helped a lot. I did the same with the pickup plus bent the shifter to the right an inch or so and tied the seat and backrest springs down as much as they would go. Now it’s reasonable although I still slide in butt first into the passenger side to get my legs in and out.
An alternative is to replace the seat springs with foam rubber but I wanted to have the vehicle judged at Oshkosh in Touring Class. Now, it the meet greet happens, that’s another issue! |

Re: new to the model a/forum
thanx for the welcomes - im having a blast working on this old truck doing the brakes and trying to figure out a pesky carb leak - leaks out the intake side of carb while running and i think ive traced it out to a sticky intake valve so its getting the MMO treatment - hope i can get it unstuck

Re: new to the model a/forum
65f100 Welcome to the site, A stuck intake valve is not likely the cause of your carb leak even though Marvel mystery oil is ok . Your probably going to have to check out the carb. clean it set the float level make sure the float valve is working set all the adjustments and maybe with some luck it’ll quit dripping. good luck my first model A was a 29 pickup.

Re: new to the model a/forum
I and others would strongly suggest that you join your local MARC or MAFCA Model A club chapter. You will find other Model A owners who can provide lots of help and advice, if you want it. MARC - Model A Restorers’ Club; MAFCA - Model A Ford Club of America.

thank you for the advice Conaway2/frank mcdaniels i have joined a local club and they have been a help with the brake job - the stuck valve turned out to be an exhaust valve so ill keep at it till i get it - hope to have my truck on the road by the end of feb. - been having a good time with this piece of history im amazed at how easy every thing i put a tool to comes apart!

Re: new to the model a/forum
Best of luck with your new truck, and welcome to the forum.
Don't worry, if it didn't leak, didn't need better brakes, and didn't need help with the steering it would not be a Model A. |
