I do not believe the spindles for a 1930 Phaeton are any different than other years and models. As mentioned go with a pair of used originals they should work just fine. Just check to make sure the threads haven't been brutalized.

The real early cars had differences in some chassis parts such as brake system and clutch parts. There were different spring assemblies depending on the gross weight capability of the car body style. The front spindles were likely all the same during model A production.

Berts is your best bet. They are great people with loads of original parts and new ones too.. They also have rebuilt spindles you can buy with an exchange.

Get this... I was rebuilding my suspension in conjunction with putting on cast iron drums. I also took my spindles over to the machine shop (he pressed in the studs for the drums). I took the parts over since it was such an old car. When I went to pick up my parts the gal on the counter said "wait a minute the machinist wants to talk to you". He rolled out a cart with my stuff. He said "I can't press the bushings into one of those spindles for ya". Turns out someone had machined that top boss bigger, and put an oversize bushing in it (extra thickness). He said if I got another bushing he'd put it in for me in just a few minutes. I said "geeze that makes that boss fairly thin so I'm not sure that is a good idea. Might be a lot weaker than we imagine". He thought about that for just a few seconds and said you may be right. Do you think you can find another spindle for a car that old? I said I don't know but I sure am gonna try.

Just something to think about.

Try Speedway Motors. I think they have spindles. Don't send an e-mail, or try to order on-line. I think they stopped putting the original units in the catalog. They likely have some still on the shelf, but you will have to talk to someone that worked there when "Speedy Bill" was still alive. Yes that was what they called him. Oh, and let us know how you make out.

Speedway likely has spindles for juice brakes such as.the round back types used from 1937 through 1941. The round back and later 42 through 48 spindles will fit the model A axle but are generally used for hydraulic brakes. Model A spindles are not reproduced.

Model A stuff shows up on flea-pay now and then.

In response to post #8. I’m sure Berts would not do something like that. Their rebuilt spindles gave new balls installed. You would still need to get the new king pins and install the associated bushings to use them. I had my kingpins and matching bushings installed on my spindles by Schwalms in Lancaster PA. I didn’t want to take any chances. Berts might be willing to sell you spindles without an exchange if yours are toast. Supergnat

Whatever you end up with it would be a good plan to have them magnafluxed before doing any work on them or using them.

Hi, I just pulled my 1930 stock front end. The rears are super nice, if the front is similar (hidden by stock drums still), I suspect these will be a good candidate for you. Let me know if you’re interested. I can send pictures next week when I’m back home and have time to tear them down for you. Let me know, J

The steering arms are a separate part. They have a big nut that holds them on to the spindle.

Several of the model A parts sources have used parts as well. Bert's has a relatively large inventory of the stuff as can be seen in photos on the web site. The average per spindle on flea-pay is 40 to 50 bucks depending on condition. Nice clean ones would likely be higher dollar. A guy wouldn't want real rusty ones or any with damaged threads.

thanks everyone. speedway spindles won't work. Berts don't show they have them online, but i am going to give them a call tomorrow. i see alot of people offering some. the main reason for me are the threads are all shot. i might try a using a spacer as the treads in the end look good.
