The NEW updated and revised MARC/MAFCA...
Restoration Guidelines and Judging Standards...
I am courious as to how many who are building fine point vehicles, and knowingly that the standards are being revised...how many are kind of holding back your restorations until the new standards are out? OR are you going through with it anyway only to change things later? Pluck |

Pluck, its my understanding is that after a revision issue, there is a "grace period" for cars undergoing resto to be finished per the earlier standard so there should be no reason for someone to hold up if they are reasonably along in the process. I have some very mild concern as I'm starting to do some components for two very early cars that I could potentially have to do over later on depending on what the JS state, however, there still is variences that could be granted by the MARC/MAFCA JSCs.

Grace period i believe is 2 years after the revision is issued .So maybe your looking at 4 years from now? L.O.L. ..I wanted to install the CORRECT pop-out for my car "BUT" was told it is not in the standards yet. So until they do a revision i can not place the correct switch in.And yes i asked for a varience at the upcoming MARC meet and the answer was [not to confuse the judges] ??? by installing the correct pop-out in yet... [So Steve that was my answer from the MARC judge to the varience... I plan on installing the correct pop-out after the meet.. With the early key style.

As a retired AACA Judge of 30 years I've always wondered what it is like restoring a car to MARC standards. I'm guessing reading the Judging Standards would make my head explode.

In terms of building a fine point car, I think doing a Model A is the hardest thing in the world. Model T's and EV8 Fords are probably a close second. However, those clubs are spread out over many years while the A is concentrated in four. Other marques aren't even in the discussion.

I own two A's that were the former top MARC cars in 1975 (best of show, also top) and 1994 (Henry Ford Award, also top MAFCA car), neither done my me. The quality of the parts are exceptional, NOS this and that, etc. The parts alone couldn't be bought today for what I paid for the cars. Fairly recently, a very nice former MARC of Excellence car was bought and "re-restored" and won a Henry for the current owner. My '75 car, a 150-B could be upgraded to a Henry today for a fraction of the cost of starting from scratch. I will not do it out of respect for the former owner but it is now being "freshened up" to me my prime driver. These cars could be picked apart now on minutia like nut and bolt finishes based on what we have collectively learned over the years but they still remain fine cars. Here's a photo of the '29 oval window ('94).
