Default 1928 vs 1929 Roadster Cowl

Here is a question for the true expert, I read somewere that there is a minor differance in a 28-29 roadster cowl. Whatever it is it made the early Bonneville Salt Flat and Dry Lakes racers use the 28 cowl over the 29. Old wives tale, or is there a differance?..........Photos would be great!

This will be something to see!

There was a change in 1928 to all cowls over the board but I think things remaind consistant throughout 1928-29.

Hmmmmmmm?

From what I remember the distance side to side were the cowl panel attaches to the "Coupe Pilar" is narrower. This somehow made for a better aero package and meet the rules of using a stock body.

The difference in the cowls is were the hood side panels hit the lower part of the cowl, the early lower cowls don't have the flange that sticks out, and I'm guessing 3/4 of an inch. From the out side, the cars look the same. Dudley

Thanks Dudley, so it is a true story. Another SCTA rule that is unique is the front of a 28-29 body. All bodies start or end at the firewall, not the 28-29 acording to SCTA. Since the cowl can unbolt the body starts/ends at the coupe pilar. Not a stock A topic, but somewhat interesting to me at least.
