Default Speedo Cable color

Just a quick question. Most of the replacement speedometer cables I see are some kind of unfinished metal. What is the correct color for the cable? I seem to recall reading somewhere that it was black? Or is the raw metal look correct? Thanks.

Is the outer cable casing considered part of the "housing"? If so, then it would be a Raven finish?

Is there a method to reproduce the "Raven" finish or do most folks just paint them flat black? New model A owner wants to know.

I have a very nice looking car, but by no means a car adhering to strict stock Model A standards. I'm going to paint the cable with satin black rattle can paint, let it cure for a few days, and install it. I guess if you were a super purist, that's not the way to go, but that's not where I'm at.

That's how I would do it or just leave it with out painting it! If not for points.

Raven was likely a black phosphate coating. The phosphate coatings can start to corrode in certain environments. I always rube some motor oil on them now and then.
