Default Group 1 or 2 battery

I have read that a group 2 battery fits the box better but are more expensive. If it is true that it fits better because the size is a little larger, does it mean it’s a better battery because it costs more? Thanks for the advice. Marc

Same here. I switched over after I had 2 group 1's fail withing 3 years. I've had the Optima 6v for a couple of years now without a single issue, ... well, that wasn't my fault like leaving the lights on, or from an occational sticking brake pedal.

Regards
Bill

As the demand for 6-volt batteries waned in the 1970s, eventually many suppliers made the decision to offer only Group 1 batteries to replace both units. This occurred because enough amps could be put into a modern Group 1 battery to sufficiently power vehicles that originally used the larger Group 2 type, and because there was a much larger need for the Group 1 battery, which was used extensively in 6-volt tractor applications and dual-battery 12-volt applications. A modern Group 1 battery contains over 600 cold cranking amps and is more than enough to power any early 6-volt system.

I also vote for the Optima - buy once cry once........

Ive had 3 optima 6 volts over the yrs and loved them. Two worked great and one was a dud.

I paid 125-150. at the time. I think they are easily double that now.

I am now using Rural King 6 volts for 50. each. they are fine by me. I dont drive often.

6 volt = Group 1
12 volt = Group 25
