Horns
I bought several Model A horns from an estate sale and would like to check them out to see if they work before I completely dissemble them for cleaning and repairs. I have removed the covers and did a visual inspection and made sure that the armature turned freely. How can I check to see if they will turn with a battery connected to them? Can I connect the two wires to a battery to see if it works? Also, what was the color of the original wires that supplied power to the horn? Thank you for any help you can give me on this matter..

Horns
Back off the adjuster screw a good bit and then hook up the wires to a 6V power source. Polarity doesn’t matter.

Re: Horns
I have a pair of 6' 10 ga. leads with battery charger clamps on each end for just such tests. Very handy.

Re: Horns
Thank you for all the information. I think that one or maybe two of the horns have been converted to 12v so if I test them with a 6v battery will the armature turn and if it doesn't should or could I then try them on a 12v battery.

It will turn, just with less force. That’s why I suggested backing off the adjuster screw, so it can spin freely. |
