Changing a multi disc trans to accept a single disc?
I am trying to put another pile of parts together so that we can be a 2 model A family .I have in my pile of parts a transmision set up for a multi disc clutch. Can I change the input shaft and add a bearing retainer to this transmision , and use it like a normal single disc transmision? If this works , can i just bore the hole in the multi-disc bellhousing larger and still use it? I've got a lot more time than money , and I am getting 3 months off starting friday [school-bus driver]
thanks......JIMI |

I have a friend who converted his Multi-disc clutch system to a single disc clutch system YET maintained that Multi-disc clutch look on the outside.
If this is something you would like to explor, please email me at [email protected] Pluck |

They are different so some modifications of the flywheel need to be made. Along with some pther machining. When done it will look correct from the outside also. Rod

Re: Changing a multi disc trans to accept a single disc?
I bought an early car that has a converted clutch. It now has a V8 clutch in it. Externally it looks like a stock early unit. I spoke to the previous owner and he will help you make the modification. He said with the new cone clutch it will be even easier. Contact me off-line and I will send you his phone #. I'm sure Pluck in his earlier post is thinking of the same man.

Re: Changing a multi disc trans to accept a single disc?
Rod,Steve & Steve... I bought my bell housing from some Gent, who machined the inside to clear the (what i think was the stock single dice) pressure plate, is this necessary for a v/8 set-up? Any help? Just about everything else I figured out 15 yrs ago. Dudley
