Off topic, 41 Lincoln V12 going cheap

This is ending in less than 2 hours from now. It looks like it will go cheap. The engine will have to be rebuilt and is missing parts. Otherwise the car is in excellent shape.

Neil, that is likely all that car is worth. To rebuild that engine professionally including R&R will be well in excess of $10k. When you look at things on the undercarriage, it does not appear that car was ever restored. My guess is it was refurbished to be a museum piece (-a/k/a: an Easter Egg), and was purchased out of a museum or private collection. Once made operable again it was determined the costs to do so are more than someone wanted to invest.

While I hate to admit it, this car will likely be purchased off of BaT and a new Ford crate motor and transmission installed.

Brent, you are probably right. Popping a modern engine in there would be the easy route. I would be inclined to take the engine apart and see what it needs before junking it. Since the carburetor is missing, a custom manifold and a 4 barrel carburetor would be fun to set on that V12. I don't have the room or money to screw with something like this. I bet it goes back on BAT in a few years.

Run a row of Webers ala Ferrari. I have a pair of side drafts I'd like to stick on a 4 port head. I've seen one but have had no luck finding what they used for the manifold.

Full CCCA classic, probably the most attractive car Ford Motor Company ever built. I have seen a few survivor Lincolns with early 1950,s Cadillac or Oldsmobile ohv engines in them , the V 12,s are similar to flathead Fords , with problems of their own. As mentioned in earlier post someone probably will use a new crate engine in it , my experience with engine rebuilding shops is they are somewhat reluctant to work on unfamiliar engines, last engine I had done the machine shop did all the reboring and I reassembled it.

I think the most attractive cars Ford Motor Company ever built were the 1933 models.

The '41 Lincoln is a lot further down on the list and the sale price adequately reflects that. The 1937-1940 Lincoln Zephyrs were better looking than 1941.

These have dropped like anchors over the last few yrs. Ive seen real nice drivers not sell at 20k. Everyone passed away who collected these.....
Saw a beautiful 55 t bird a few weeks back and the guy had trouble getting 18k.
in the meantime, a c-2 corvette is at 50k all day long.

Hot Rod Lincoln is one of my favorite songs. Thanks for the link Updraugt. I see the car has the original carburetor on it which is probably restricting the true potential of that motor. I don't like the stretched nose on the car. It would look better if the front axle was moved forward along with the radiator.

To each their own, but I think the 41 Lincoln is nice looking. We will see what it fetches in a few years after it re appears on BAT. With a crate engine perhaps.

For those youngsters in the crowd, the grapevine hill was originally a twisty road that snaked back and forth, like a grapevine. It was built that way so that it was not so steep that the early cars could not climb it in high gear (think Model T). You could still see the old road in the 1950's. You can still see small traces of it today but it is mostly erased and you really have to know what to look for.

So what does this say about the 41 Lincoln? I think they are nice looking cars and I am surprised that the two coupes did not bring more money.

NK, actually that cabrio brought strong money. there was a nice driver on AACA like that and the fella couldnt get 20k about 2 yrs back. These cars have been on a slide for awhile now. They are costly to repair and the v 12 isnt all that robust. The car for 20k was actually pretty nice and no takers.
Demand on these has been like the early 50s MGTD, very much waning.......

That’s actually strong money for that car..the market for them is gone.. V12 bigger piece of shit than the V8.. crazy complex block casting, lousy power to weight ratio.. I’ll take the brake drums, loaded backing plates and the gear set from the tranny.. the rest? Meh

I'm not sure that I'd put the flathead V8 as a whole into the "piece of shit" category. They had problems starting out in '32 and the V8 60 was in my opinion not a success. However, the 221 & 239ci V8's I don't see as shitty. With all due respect.
