Default This may be a good vending Idea for Hershey 2013

How about if the powers to B contacted U S Postal / U P S / Fed X or others to set up a spot or two so people could stop and have there parts shipped right there.
There are times you see people carrying cumbersome parts so you know that they have stoped looking so they can get there parts back to there cars / trucks.
I thing it would be a WIN WIN for every one. Shippers , People that have bought the parts & the vendors there because this way the people could get back to see what you have & they may need.

Any Thoughts ????

Bill, I think this would be a good idea for Hershey. UPS sets up at the Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, KY each year....they do a brisk business (I am told). Most of the parts they ship are new and have a box...might be the only holdup. Pat

Pat
That becomes a problem of logistics of the the three or so that I mentioned it would depending on how many people they bring. It would then transfer to how fast the transaction got completed and then how much of the pie they get !!!!!

I thought that I saw a Packaging company set up on the Chocolate field on one of the rows that were closest to the Arena. It wasn't one that you mentioned, maybe just an independent.

If you use Priority Mail, the USPS has, and supplies free of charge, boxes. I think the idea has merit but will probably take some hand-holding and in-depth explaining to the Postal Service. I agree, it could be a win-win situation.

20 years ago when I first started going to Hershey there was a guy who had a UPS store in Mechanicsburg that was there in the Chocolate field who boxed up stuff weighed it and you paid him on the spot. Each night he took his truckload of stuff back to the store and it went out the next day. You went back out and shopped for stuff. It was great. Then the guy stopped providing that service or quit or who knows, he no longer showed up. Since I live 3000 miles from there it was a wonderful thing. Don't know why nobody else picked up the slack unless the swap meet committee has some rule against it.

You would think a local ups/mailboxes etc. would do it.

he was probably forced out by HERCO, because they did not get a cut of the shipping charges.

HERCO is Hershey Corp-they own the land and to some extent they controll the show and get a good cut of the vending space "rent" It used to be called Hershey Farms in the old days.

If you attend Hershey and live in or near California, Bill Perry of All Ford Parts of Campbell, Ca (northern) sends a 40' shipping container, parked on the field near
Drakes booth, back every year, very reasonable to be part of the load.

No offense, but would any business do anything for free ??? They're not a charity or arm of the government, after all.

In my opinion, Hershey is a wonderfully run event, especially when you consider it's only presented for a few days once a year. I've been going to Hershey since the 70's and it's only gotten better as far as I'm concerned.

While I can't speak for how HERCO might charge a business for space at Hershey I will give an example from 1991 at the Street Rod Nationals in Oklahoma City. I did some business with a pin striper there that year who did not rent a formal booth to practice his trade. He carried his supplies in a coaster wagon he pulled around the fair grounds and for that privilege he paid the NSRA $1500 for the long weekend. Kinda makes store space in the Chicago suburbs look cheap by comparison.
Back to HERCO, did they price some commercial vendors out of the marketplace? Just sayin'.

I think the reason some commercial vendors may have left is because of the sales tax issues, permits required, book keeping, etc. JMO
