37' pickup, lower door seals
Started looking closely at the interior of my doors, preparing to make a template for new panels. I noticed that there is an indention running across the bottom, approx. 1/2" wide with holes for snap fasteners. They were the button type with spring wires, there are a couple left in the door. My question is, was there a door seal mounted here? It looks as if the panel would then lay over the top creating a flush surface. Looked in a couple of catalogs but they show cross sections of door seal materials. Am thinking that a strip was attached here with a sweep extending downward. If not, were the lower edges of the panels held down with fasteners in these holes? I have never seen an original so I am guessing here. As always, any help would be greatly appreciated. - Q

Re: 37' pickup, lower door seals
This is a photo of the lower portion of my door. Notice the half inch indentation that goes across the bottom, with holes for fasteners. Seems to me that a flap from a seal might go between the steel of the door and the interior door panel. Just wondering since I am going to make my own panels. C&G lists the seals for 10.00 a pair, but only shows a cross section. Need more info than that. Thought maybe someone might have done this before. I could put a layer of thin foam tape down and use the holes to fasten the lower edge of the panel. Thanks for any info on the lower door seals you might have. - Q

Re: 37' pickup, lower door seals
Here's a finished door. The bottom seal is the same as on a 34 car.

Re: 37' pickup, lower door seals
Don,
I never happened to notice the difference between the 34 car and the later pickup door seals, but it's more than obvious. Thanks for clarifying this! |

Re: 37' pickup, lower door seals
Zimmco- Don Rogers- Thanks for the reply and photos, clears things up for me. Just by looking at the door I could tell this might be what needed to be done. This old truck came to me stripped down to its fighting weight. The guys that put it together in the early fifties didn't waste any time or money on little things like these. It was all about building a cheap, reliable work truck. Thanks again- Q

Re: 37' pickup, lower door seals
Zimmco, I only discovered that the 35/36/37 truck had a different door seal after I tried to install the 34 passenger car seal on my 35 Panel Delivery door. It was sold to me as correct, but it didn"t fit worth a damn. It was too long and the holes didn't line up at all. Futher investigation turned up the 50-812230 seal.
