Default 34' Roadster windshield

Looking for advice. I need to know if it is normal for the windshield frame to swing back and rest on the wiper vacuum pipe . At 60+ mph there is a lot of pressure on the glass and and the frame keeps pushing past the posts . Are the frame rubbers too soft?

That's not normal and yes, evidently the rubber weather strips are too weak to keep it place.

David is right the reproduction rubber seal is much to soft and my 34 roadster windshield frame does exactly the same as yours. What I did was fabricate a couple of hard rubber stops that fit under the rubber seal in each corner of the windshield and it stopped it from hitting the wiper vacuum pipe and if I'm in a show I remove the stops.

On further reflection, it could be worse as you have the wiper motor vacuum line on the inside of the post. If originality is important, that tube/line was originally attached on the outer side of the post.

Interesting,,, this Roadster in question is a grandfathered Dearborn Award winner, but,,,. I don't see another void hole in the original wood where it might been on the outer part. I will check later on my friends original survivor and report back. Thanks .

Sorry, but I was referring to the chrome plated steel tube attached to the windshield post; no wood involved. It would appear that the tube in question on the car in question isn't chrome plated. That's at least two points.

Steve,

I'm away from home and this laptop does not have the appropriate photo. I'll send it next week when I'm back. Fortunately, it is very easy to switch the tobe's routing, unlike a lot of other jobs I can think of on old cars.

Hi, here are some vacuum line pics from my 33 B standard roadster post. Hopefully the orientation of the vacuum pipe is correct, it came from an original unrestored car, hence the black paint. Curiously the left side post leads the vacuum line from the left of the cowl to the top of the post then across the top of windshield with 4 clips to the right side vacuum wiper, RHD Australian assembled car. Regards, Michael

Steve, et al,

After comparing the location of the opening in the cowl for the passage of the wiper motor vacuum line relative to the windshield posts on '32 through '36 phaeton/roadster cowls, despite archival photographic evidence to the contrary, I stand corrected. The line should be routed on the inside starting in 1933. Sorry for the confusion.
