Re: fuel push rod insert
i asked the question simply because there has been threads on this before about plugging the bush as the oill sprays up @ if i remember right someone said it can effect your oil pressure on a 8ba not a 59a or earlier

Re: fuel push rod insert
They are real thin new. Leave it alone. ken ct. There is no oil pressure down there, just a mist at best.

Re: fuel push rod insert
If the cam bearing damaged the pushrod bushing, what does the cam bearing look like now?? How did the pushrod bushing move downward into the cam bearing housing?
I believe my 59A bushing driver is .390 O.D. with a .360 pilot. Obviously the cam is out and the bushing is driven into the cam bearing housing with this tool. |

Re: fuel push rod insert
Maybe i got it backwards,i thought you said it was too sloppy,no problem there. If its opposite dont know what to do about that. There impossible to remove with cam in place and too thin to cut thread in it to pull it out???? ken ct. Good luck.

Yes. It can be done, as long as we are talking 8BA. I won't get into the why of your situation, just how to do it. You need a quality 1/2" 20 tap. The bushing is very hard. You will have to put a lot of weight into the tap to get it going. Fill the bushing with grease, and it will catch any chips. Make a puller as pictured to pull it after you tap it. The first photo shows the bushing on the end of the puller after it was pulled. |

Re: fuel push rod insert
I know this topic has been discussed at length. I did not remove that bushing in my 8BA when i removed the push rod and it DID not lower the oil pressure. Other reports may vary.

Thanks JWL the size is just what am looking for. Not sure about the cam bearing. But the cam fits and rotates ok.

I just mic'd a couple of used 59a fuel pump bushings, O.D. is .441 or so... I put a 7/16 valve guide in the hole once, it fit well... Karl |

I have ordered a new bush, but it seems it may not be necessary after reading this? My block is C69A, is this the same as a 59A and a possible worn bush will not effect oil pressure? No point in fixing it if it ain't broke. BTW, I found this thread on a search for how to remove cam bearings, but nothing specifically came up to answer my question. |

Re: fuel push rod insert
The bushing will not effect oil pressure unless it is worn to the point it has a hole in it. There is no pressurized oil to the rear cam bearing so there is no pressure to loose. Pressurized oil flows around it in the main oil galley.

With the push rod removed you will loose oil pressure.

Re: fuel push rod insert
So I should be able to maybe feel down the bush and feel for any oil hole facing forward , in case an 8BA bush has been fitted, and if no hole and bush looks OK, leave it be then ?
The block is stripped right down ready to assemble when parts arrive. |
