locking Hucaps- 1932-1935
Hey guys- I have a question. I have several locking hubcaps that are for the 1932-1935 wire spoke wheels. 2 , I believe are 1935 that have an oval shaped Ford script cover that covers the keyhole. They have one ring in the hubcap. I have two that the keyhole cover is round with a small Ford Script in the center and 3 rings in the cap. Are these two 1932,1933 or 1934 and are they the same V8 and 4 cylinder. I understand that locking caps were standard in 1935 and an option in 1932-1934. Is that correct?
Thanks for the answers!!!!! |

Re: locking Hucaps- 1932-1935
SteveB31,if you have or know someone that has a copy of,The Early Ford V/8 Clubs, 1933-34 Ford Restoration Manual by Cliff Helling. On page 22 chapter 2 it shows the difference between the 33 and 34 locking hupcaps. The only difference I have see between the 34 and 35,is the 34 has a wider oval outside the locking cover, which shows more blue paint. Hope this helps.E.P.W.

Re: locking Hucaps- 1932-1935
Your two caps with round covers with Ford script in the center (in an oval) with three rings were intended for '32 and '33 four-cylinder passenger cars and commercial vehicles. The version for the V-8 vehicles had a raised V-8 in the center (different for the '32 and '33 caps although early '33 V-8s used leftover '32 locking caps). The caps without the covers were the same for all '32 caps and all '33 four-cylinder caps. The '33 V-8 cap without the cover had a different ring configuration. Locking caps were extra-cost accessories during the '32 model year, standard equipment on '33 and '34 deluxe passenger cars and extra-cost accessories for '33 and '34 standard models and commercial vehicles.

Left is 33 , middle is 34 & right is 35 . The few 32's I have had got gobbled up by 32 folks . The 33 is obviously a V-8 one but the 4cyl one will be the same with a different center cover with " Ford " on it as mentioned B4 .

Re: locking Hucaps- 1932-1935
With respect, David, the '33 four-cylinder cap is the '32 cap carried over. It is not like the '33 V-8 cap shown in your photo with a different center cover. Please note the difference in the rings and the smaller diameter center cover.

Re: locking Hucaps- 1932-1935
An oddity of the '34 locking cap is that the irregular width of the thickness of the oval on the center cover does not follow the precedent of the unique-to-'34 four-cylinder hub cap which has the same shape oval as the '35 locking cap.
