Default Shop manuals

I like to research stuff and I like to read. It helps when building a car.

When I built my '55 first series Chevy pickup, I got a Chevy factory shop manual for it to help with technical stuff for the build. I also got a copy of the factory assembly manual which was very helpful as well.

Maybe I'm not looking in the right spots, but I would like to get a Ford factory shop manual for a, '30 Model A, a '32 Ford, a '40 Ford and a '47 Ford, but have not been able to find them.

Can somebody point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Andy

FoMoCo always grouped the different year models into a string of like models like 32 to 38 and so on. They never made one year specific shop manuals for the early Fords before the war. The "Green Bible" Ford Chassis Parts & Accessories Catalogue was from 1928 through 1948 if that is any indication.

For Model A cars & pickups there is a modern "Model A Ford Mechanic's Handbook" series that pretty well covers them. Ford never made a good shop manual for them but did have a lot of Service Bulletins. The early V8s had the Owners Instruction Book for specific year models. To my knowledge, FoMoCo never made any assembly manuals at least not in the 30s or 40s.

The best books to get for specific models are the one put out by the clubs whether it be for Model A (MAFCA or MARC) or the early V8 (Early Ford V8 Club). They have the best pictures & diagrams you can get on individual models or like model cars.

As RotorWrench said, there is no one "Shop Manual" for early Fords but many less than that. Here are some manuals that have helped with my '47 Ford:

http://macsautoparts.com/early-v8-fo...0R3CHL1071925/

Especially this one I've used the most:

Here's one I haven't tried that looks real good:

There is an excellent 1942 shop manual and also a 1946...once you know the drill, info is readily transferred to other years. There are also service manuals, lower level
The Ford series of small repair manuals on engines, transmissions, etc. is pretty good
Service bulletins provide a ton of shop info but are not easy to navigate.
1928 and '32-3 bulletins are essentiall Manual summaries on the new lines, and then lots of basic overhaul stuff is updated in '38-9.
The '32-6, '37-8, and '39-40 NAPA Echlin manuals are excellent mini manuals, cheap and readily available.
All this stuff is reprinted and pretty easy to find.

Chiltons and Motors Manuals are also good. Check out the swap meets. They are out there for $5 to $25

Ford had "Service Bulletins" they issued the bulletins as time passed covering service issues at first and later all service. Originally in 32-37 Ford issued the Service Bulletins about every couple of months and the dealers kept the bulletins in a binder issue by issue listed by date, Later in 38-the war, they issued a complete full binder in 38 only adding and amending as time passed, the dealers either added pages or removed old amended pages, the pages were arranged by basic part numbers with tabs separating larger sections. These books covered Ford Mercury and LZ from 32 thru the newest issue of pages. The book got to be very big and after the war another book was issued. covering the same information in the same way. Ford of Canada issued their own Service Bulletins in basically the same way as the USA bulletins, although they have several different models and slightly different part numbers and a different tool supplier than K R Wilson. Today the Service Bulletin binders are very hard to come by in a complete version (without pages missing let alone finding pages that were amended and supposed to be removed )
