I've been cleaning up a place for a guy that has a ton of pre war ford stuff. And he has a cutaway of what he says is a 34 transmission. It has a handle to turn the gears inside. It's pretty cool.

You guys are aware that the cutaway engine is a V8-60, aren't you. I'm sure it is very similar to an 85-100 version. When I went to the University of Minnesota in 1960-61, they had one of these cutaway V8-60's on display in the hallway of the main engineering building. In six months, everything remotely removable had been stolen off of it.

No wonder they had a rep for running hot, not much space between the center cylinders and the siamesed exhaust ports.

WHOA there! That cut-away IS NOT a V8-60! The red cut-away engine is a 21 stud. V8-60s only had 17 studs. The big give-away (in this case) is the fact that V8-60s DO NOT have a stud directly ABOVE each spark plug hole, as 21 and 24-stud engines have. Note the V8-60 directly below. It has ONLY 1 (one) bolt/stud directly centered between the two middle cylinders.

Below is a different angle on the red cut-away engine......most-definitely NOT a V8-60! DD

Ooops! Sorry. It's hard to count studs when so much of the engine is missing. I had a hard time getting to 17!

It may not be widely known that the Henry Ford Trade School at the Ford Rouge plant did many of the engine cutaways with the help of instructors.

They were use for displays at new model openings, car shows and in dealer showrooms.
They also ended up in a lot of teaching facility's.

I was there in 1950-1951 & 1952 when the school closed.
