Default Anyone know how to renew NJ QQ (antique) plates?

Hi All:

According to all of the information I've read on-line at the State's DMV webpage, QQ (antique) plates need to be renewed every three years. It says repeatedly there is no fee for the renewal.

My registration is up in April '21, but I haven't found any information explaining the actual renewal process.

Any NJ Barners done this recently?

Thanks,

Tim

No help from me Tim, except to suggest you try this on the Model A side too. You know well they're good folk.

I get a renewal notice from the MVC every three years for my old Chevy coupe. And yes, there's no charge. It's my understanding that the NJMVC is a bit overwhelmed and understaffed lately with the COVID,

If you lost your renewal notice and PIN, and you are still within your renewal time window, you will be still be able to renew your registration online. You can request your PIN here

I know it’s a pain always but especially w Covid, but I think if you go to a NJMV location with your old registration they will do it. Here’s a website showing which are open during Covid BS, in red are closed the rest open. https://www.state.nj.us/mvc/location...litystatus.htm

When I ran QQ I would get a renewal in the mail just like any other car but with no charge. I stopped using them because of the restrictions. For the $40 bucks a year I can drive any day any time. The only thing that was good was no inspection. But there's been no inspection on our cars for a long time now. Just my take.

OK, thanks. I'm still a little early so maybe it will come.

Thanks, Al. I'm going to see how much I get hassled by the man before doing that.

They just send it in the mail before it's due, you just have to fill out your insurance information to show the car is still legal and mail it back in. I'd go broke paying registration fees if it wasn't for the QQ tags. I drive my cars all the time, I drive them to work every dry day all summer. In fact I drove one to work this past Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. I've never gotten hassled about driving with QQ tags.

Never worried about getting pulled over. I worry about getting in an accident and the other sides lawyer brings up the car wasn't suppose to be on the road at that time. Again for $40 a year your covered. The only advantage to QQ anymore is you save $40 a year.

In Oregon the same type of rules are in place BUT we are allowed to drive the car for maintenance purposes. So I am always warming it for an oil change or going to the parts store. Does your fine print allow this? Hope so!

Funny you say this. When I lived at home, my dad drove his '49 F1 through town on his way to work on a Friday. The follow day, I drove through town to go to the local Napa to get something for it.

Cop pulled me over and said he saw the truck yesterday and it shouldn't be driven two days in a row.

I simply said yes you did see it yesterday, but today I'm doing maintenance on it. He got all in a huff, took my info and came back 10 minutes later saying go to the store and go right home. He called it a warning. I said, "Thank you, sir" and considered it that he had nothing else to do that day.

That was the only time I've ever been hassled with QQ plates.

Several of us here in La Grande have those plates and have never heard of any of us being stopped for them. One day I was stopped along the highway and a state trooper pulled up behind me. I said am I in trouble? He said no I just wanted to see your car!!
