Default 1941 ford sedan vacum wiper motor and control

my 1941 ford super deluxe wiper only functions when I turn the control back and forth. There are three hoses one from manifold to switch and two from switch to vacum motor, Any advise is much appreciated.

Sounds like your wiper motor may need lubricated as least. I used ATF and a syringe to get the ATF in to the wiper motor (via the Vacuum feed line) by moving the blades back and forth with the switch in the on position. This worked great on my '41 Coupe. Failing this, you may need to get your wiper motor rebuilt.

Brake fluid is my go to for Trico motors.

Don't put anything in your Trico that you wouldn't put in your engine.

Take the wiper motor out, you'll see a small cover in the middle of it held on with two tiny screws. Remove that cover and you should see a fiber cam with a small spring holding it, put some three in one oil on there, it should rotate side to side freely and the spring should make it snap to the sides into place when you push it with your finger. This is the mechanism that switches the vacuum to change the direction, it gets sticky and doesn't switch.

Marvel Mystery Oil also will lubricate the wiper motor.

It may have a problem with the valve as well. I think Ford only used that set up for the one year and then they went back to a linkage that pulled the valve on the wiper motor but I don't know for certain how long they used it. Make sure there are no rubber tube leaks and test the valve if you can. It seems like they had two larger tubes and one small one.

When I forced Marvel Mystery oil into the vacuum line from under the hood using a syringe, I had a puddle of oil on my interior floor, hose was cracked under the dash. If those hoses are original you may want to replace them first.

Unless you are going for an all original car, install a 2 speed electric. After buying a NOS Trico motor and still not having a good wiper system, I replaced mine with one from Mac's works great and fit like original, no revisions. BTW I have a NOS Trico that I would part with PM me.Al

If I remember correctly smaller hose will keep the wipers in the park position. so when the wiper switch is off there will be vac to hold the wipers down otherwise they would move all over, from the air across the windshield.

All I can say is my 46 has that kind of control with three hoses.
