New V8 Owner, 1936 Tudor Touring Deluxe

Hi all,

I recently purchased my first pre-war Ford V8. I purchased this vehicle from and elderly gentleman several weeks ago. The car was taken out of storage two years ago. Fuel line (cleaned), gas tank, Stromberg carb, and fuel pump replaced (carb rebuilt) upon take out of storage. This car sat in storage from 1983 to 2018. The previous owner only drove the car twice between 2018-2020, health issues lead to his sale of the car.

This one is special in my opinion as it is a factory original survivor with factory original black enamel paint, factory original deluxe interior, as well as all factory accessories original to the car still present when ordered new from the dealership back in 1936. The car has been very well preserved in it's original state. I figure this car's condition can be attributed to the heated storage up on blocks it sat on during the last 30+ years. Very little rust on the car underside. Interior very well preserved with original mohair still intact. Around 65,000 original miles. I plan to keep all cosmetics factory and original to the car, I want to overhaul the mechanical side to make the car roadworthy and drivable on long distance trips if ever desired. Mechanical servicing/restoration will not deviate from factory original specifications. I am a stickler for originality, and want to keep things as they were as much as possible when able. If things have to be replaced I want to use factory correct reproduction parts. I will not modify or cut corners on mechanical servicing. Still very new to the early V8's and 1930s cars altogether. This will be a fun and exciting new learning experience and journey. I am looking forward to sharing my work as well as discussion regarding these early Ford V8 cars. I will have many questions! Included is a picture of the previous owner and myself, I am wearing the turquoise shirt on the right. If it matters I am 31, I have seen little to no young person activity in pre-war cars. Sad, would like to see the many pre-war cars in general continue to be taken care of as time marches on. Like many of you I feel it is very important to preserve, restore, and care for these old cars as time continues on.

That’s a beautiful car! Paint looks like it was just put on! If the rest of the car is in that good of shape it shouldn’t take much to get it roadworthy. Congratulations on being it’s next caretaker! And Kudos for wanting to preserve it as original!

I just saw the interior photos, looks like it is in fantastic shape. Also looks like it had a hot air heater installed at one time.

Welcome Mate. Well I’m a 36 guy owning 4 of them the one in my avatar with Mr Edsel Ford I have owned since I was 17 some 48 years ago. Other than a home paint job & a little needed rechroming it to is original. I totally love you stunning car. With your mechanical make over I strongly recommend a set of Flathead Teds Brake floaters. The mechanical brakes can be made to lock up wheels at any speed. There is a lot of great help on here. Feel free to ask. Thanks for sharing & enjoy.

CONGRADULATIONS! What a beauty. I brought out of retirement Miss Ida a 1936 Ford 4 door sedan, one family owned, been sitting since the 80's. found out why it had been sitting-cracked block-ran fine until it got really hot then blew all the water out. We had to hunt another engine but rebuilt it with parts original to Miss Ida. It was written up in the V8 times magazine. What a great car! It reminds me of a '36 tudor I was able to purchase in 1960. It was about in the same shape as yours (39,000 miles) and was fully equipped (including a radio and clock mirror). The only differences are that mine was a "flatback" and a different color. I was amazed to find such a nice original car when it was 24 years old; to be able to find one this nice after 84 years is simply unbelievable.

I let mine go and will forever regret it. Hold on to this one and it will give you a lifetime of pleasure.

Thanks for the comments. The paint is the original paint. The green pin stripe was faded and touched up 2 years ago upon removal from storage. I too feel the cars should take little work to get roadworthy again. Upon delivery to my house, I did take the car around the block on two occasions to see where I was mechanically. Car needs work before it hits the road in a safe and reliable way. Plenty of questions and updates to come!

Thank you. I purchased the book you mentioned last week and have been reading daily. I am about half way thru the book. Great information regarding 1935/1936 year Ford. Looking forward to learning more.

Thank you for your comments. The club's 35-36 reading has been coming along well. Learning more every day with this great book. I would like to speak to Don once I get a better grasp on this car. Would be very neat to have a discussion with him regarding the 1936 year. I hope to attend several of the clubs meets once the virus subsides.

Thank you. A trip to the Early Ford V-8 Foundation in Auburn IN is indeed on my list of things to do. I want to take the trip in this car to that museum, would be a great tribute to the car. I have heard the collection of 1936 Fords there are fabulous.

KiWinUS, I am not a farmer, although I did purchase this car within a farming community north of Columbus/Dayton OH. It was beautiful country, this old Ford fit in perfect within that little community.

Jon, yes, Michael Driskell and his wife Jane are known as "Third Generation Automotive", and do a great job of keeping many of us in this hobby supplied with early Ford V-8 parts for our vehicles, and they are top notch folks to deal with.
