Default Amp Meter Mounting

The amp meter has four tab that get bent over to secure it to the dash panel. I can't seem to get the meter tight enough in the dash panel so it won't rotate when I put the back on. The meter reminds me of an old Crackerjack toy.

A dab of clear silicone helps.

Thanks I knew there had to be clean way without glueing it in place. Thanks

either RTV the backside of it once you get it to where it wants or do the JB weld thing. The RTV is still removable with a razorblade if need be

john ,you live in cool England
but in the hotter climates in the US hot glue is not the way to go
I used it on my daughters Heating A/C contols that broke
it worked great in the winter
but in the summer it all melted and destroyed the unit

Cut a 1/2" to 5/8" wide slice out of an old bicycle inner tube and slip it over the meter case and up against the back of the instrument panel. Push it on enough to flare up against the panel and hold the meter tight.

Repop ammeter? Just don't fit like the real thing.

I used a rubber o-ring on the backside and bent the ears over it.

Great idea which gives another idea (no old bicycle inner tubes laying around) an o-ring around the back of the gauge and bend the tabs over the o-ring.

My typing is way slower than my thinking.

I would say something about thinking alike but I don't want to insult you

No insult. Fine mind think alike - so do $hitty ones but we don't have to talk about those.

The trick in the o-ring solution for me was the smallest available cross section O-ring. Like almost to the point where it passes through the hole while it is stretched around the ammeter. This seemed to offer the most "binding" along with "centering" the undersized repop ammeter in the hole.

I was so disappointed in the Ammeter. It looked REALLY fine - like even side by side it appeared to be a FORD ammeter. But put it in the hole it's made for shows how far off it was diameter wise.

Maybe they're better now?

It really did remind me of a Crackerjack compass.

I figured I would have to on go a hunt for the right size o-ring

Thanks
