My 46 turned on me
The 3 ton I just bought didn;t run too bad. Very little adjustments, oil fan hub and purdy fair. So we're doing this miners truck thing which involved a 2" vertical straight pipe stack up about 4 feet. I took it up the road few hundred yds, all good. Next day start ,idle go untill you used the pedal then start into stumbling. Dist was redone very short time, new coil ran b4,Everything the same except stack. It'll backfire odd time to. Champion garb H10 plugs comming out for NGKs. Yet plugs just don't "GO" overnight

Re: My 46 turned on me
oil, condensor, etc look fine. Old h10 plugs look old N blackish. I wouldn't say Totally foule, but remember from bike days a champ plug would look not bad yet not fire like an NGK looking 10 times worse. Put spark tester on plugs. Most were hard to get spark and when did you wouldn't light a cigerette. All that with plugs is good start

Re: My 46 turned on me
did the plugs, and new condenser cure your problem? Did you only change one thing at a time to know what the culprit was?

Re: My 46 turned on me
One thing at a time. No dice. Gonna throw a new coil in though. ohm meter doesnt register any ohms to high tension tower

Re: My 46 turned on me
Fuel starvation? Lean stumble/backfire? Maybe from trash in the gas tank?

Re: My 46 turned on me
Well runs way better. Moves good. Throttle response is a fire cracker. Still though a pulse or miss while trying to throttle up. I don't believe fuel feed as I've been all over that. And actually throttling up I doubt it'd 1/4 empty a fuel bowl b4 it starts this

Re: My 46 turned on me
My condenser story
In 2014 I tuned up my 49 before going to Gettysburg for a meet. New points and condenser in a Charlie NY chevy conversion distributor. Echlin from NAPA parts. Drove the 400 miles no problem to Gettysburg and drove around there as well. I did run into a few starting problems but worked through them. On the way home the car started and then would not get out of the parking space. Checked fuel and a few other things. All looked ok. Found some corrosion on the coil high tension lead cleaned that and the car ran fine except for a stumble when stepping on the gas. Drove the whole 400 miles home and the car stalled upon arrival. Checked the coil wire again and started it back up a and pulled it into the garage. The next day I thoroughly cleaned it all up and put it back together with dielectric grease. I did not have time to test drive it for a couple of weeks. I started the car and went in the house for a minute and when i came out it had died and would not start. Threw the old condenser back in and it ran beautiful. Convinced there were no reliable parts I switched to a pertronix unit and seeing I have 6 volts went back to the stock distributor. I used their recommended coil also. Since that time I've put maybe 30,000 miles on the car and have been in places you would never want to break down. Yes I carry replacement parts. No the distributor is not for sale. That's just my story. Do what you wish with it.
