Just took an early axle apart, when did the yoke at the end of the wishbone grow larger and stronger?

Late-1928.

Increased from 3/8" to 1/2".

Show us photos of the "ball" side, top and bottom,....ALSO, what side is the
weld seam on...

That wishbone style at the ball end, with the forged inverted "U" shape, was used from early-'28 through late-'28 with the thinner attachment yokes at the axle.

The wishbone with the thicker spring perch/axle attachment ends that you compared to in the first photos are what replaced it in late-'28. The ball end remained the same.

So you basically have the correct wishbone there for most 1928 models. Some of the latest '28's had the thicker pieces at the axle end. The earliest '28's (Jan/Feb) had a ball end that was a stamped and welded tubular design, instead of the forging, with the ball welded on to the end. Not as many of that style made in those first 2 months, and looks like a weak design to me.
