Default The wife is more important..

I bought a 1930 Model A CCPU basket case in late 2014. Attached is an image of the nearly completed running gear. View carefully to see all the parts.

My wife Jane, has had COPD for quite a while now and it's getting worse due to the by-products of restoring the Model A due to fumes and contaminates. My shop is in the lower level of our home.

I have decided to stop the restoration and sell the CCPU because of her health.

I have developed a spread sheet showing all the details. Please send me your email address for a copy.

I have a total of $8900 in it as shown in detail on the spread sheet.

Price will be $9500 which relates to well under a dollar an hour for my time.

I have elected to post it here first before I do a commercial ad in case there would be some interest.

My sister has COPD. She started smoking at 14 (64 now) and needs to bring oxygen along with her. Luckily my wife (non smoker) is fine, however she hates the "restoration smells" I make. I only do "smelly" stuff while she is at work, then open up the house to air it out before she gets home.

Obviously your wife is more important and you have made the correct decision. Just remember that an incomplete vehicle is difficult to sell and the price takes a beating. Good luck and good health to your wife. Wayne

Sorry to hear you have to give up but it is for a good cause. Best of luck on the sale.

Good decision. Buy one that's already done.

A good reason for a separate garage, if at all possible!

Sorry to hear that, maybe you can find / rent another spot to finish the project. It's going to be tough to get your investment back but I wish you luck. Having the chassis running and driving would help you Get closer to your number

Larry, I was really impressed when you first came on the Fordbarn telling us that you were starting a restoration at age 84 and I have been following your trials and successes closely. Thanks for the photos of your work. I am 77 but you are Superman!

Hi Larry,

Sorry to hear about you wife.

Your compassionate "wake-up message" about Model A Restoration "By-products" is most helpful to remind us about "what" we inhale.

I remember talking to a car paint manufacturer years ago who told me about a young body shop owner who died at 19 years old because of not wearing protective equipment when painting cars "indoors" with the new, very dangerous car enamels.

Thanks.

Hi Guys, Larry, please don't take this as a criticism, because it is not. I'll pray for your wife's health, and share with you that my sister also has COPD. But I'd like to say one thing to all of the guys who read this forum:
If you are doing anything in your house or an attached garage connected with volatile organic compounds, it is imperative to have a ventilation system (i.e. an exhaust blower or fan) which can move air through that space to the outside at a cubic foot per minute rate which produces a slight negative pressure in the subject workspace while at the same time changing the air every few minutes. Things get weird here because I am not suggesting that you break the law and operate an unregistered spray booth on an unauthorized property, but even if you are engaging in a hobby for your own personal enjoyment, you need to keep yourself and your family safe from the effects of compounds that can be very toxic by their nature.
I hope that you find the solution you seek to your immediate problem, and I hope that others will consider proper ventilation carefully when undertaking restoration work within any enclosed spaces, whether in the home or outside buildings.

I have a large three-speed exhaust fan in the shop that helped. Her sensitivity to the "smells" became extreme, to the point where the back drafting from the shop heat vents started to affect her a lot.

This caused increasing complaints from her, so I decided my restoration had to be stopped. The right thing to do.

Someone is going to get a great CCPU that has been done right so far.

Larry, I am sorry for the need for your decision , but you are doing the right thing. I admire your love for God's greatest gift save His salvation and your unselfish decision. God bless you. I love my wife and I like very much my Model A, but nothing competes with my wife.

I would like to do that if only just to meet you. However I would love to have a CCPU. 1930 is my favorite year.

Love to meet you too. Also a past model airplane builder. F-14 Tom Cat was my last one.

My CCPU would make a great addition to your "A" stall.

Would also welcome a phone call to answer any questions you may have about the CCPU. 319-436-7277
