Default Muffler clamp orientation

Months ago, someone posted very clear line drawings of how to properly orient the top and bottom of the muffler clamp for assembly.

I have searched the archives and can't find it. It showed very clearly the "top" and "bottom" of the two-piece clamp. The purpose was to explain the differences in the upper and lower tapers.

Anyone know where they reside?

Thank you!

Larry

I just replaced mine the other day. The smaller I.D. of the clamp went around the manifold, and the larger I.D. went around the muffler pipe.

Larry read the old link.

http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...mp+orientation

I think the answer Tom Wesenberg gave is correct
Just to help clarify what Benson said about the orientation of the clamp, the shorter side of the clamp will have a larger diameter opening and it goes UP. If you view the clamp from the side, you will see the longer side goes DOWN, to better grip the pipe, which will have a smaller O.D. than the manifold ridge.

Hope this helps

The larger I.D. Goes to the manifold ... Smaller To the pipe.
If you examine the clamp it's self explanatory... I believe the les book has a misprint

Now that we have the clamp in properly, is there a correct nut and bolt location like cotter pins, hose clamps, steering tube clamps and the like?

You don't know how important that is on a RHD car. Get it wrong and you can't use the clutch but that's been spoken of before.

Looking at factory pictures in the Judging Standarts the nuts are facing towards the fender not the engine.

Clamp Orientation / nuts are slightly angled towards the back... Not straight out

Just got my Aries today from Snyders. Very well made.

Sticker on the muffler says warranty is void if clamp is too tight. Says the reason is that the muffler "moves."

How does one know when the clamp is just right?

Not sure if they mean the clamp at the exhaust manifold or the one on the frame in the back. I know the muffler and pipe expand as they get hotter, so the entire muffler and pipe assembly gets longer. It needs to move through that rear clamp.

I put one of these with an old style tail pipe clamp in place of the bolt.

Aries sells a clamp to be used on the Stainless steel muffler they sell. Holds tight enough not to rattle but allows for the expansion of the stainless.
