Glass Matt Battery
My 57 Skyliner has a battery that will soon hit it's 5 year birthday. I thought I'd like to get a glass matt battery. Turns out getting one to fit is a bit of a challenge. Anyone ever done this conversion? What battery did you buy? Currently I have the Interstate 29NF-VHD (Group 29 NF)
All the places I have called (including my current supplier) have not had the most intelligent, or perhaps helpful people. Batteries sure have gone up in price. $140 just for the same thing I have. |

Re: Glass Matt Battery
You might consider changing the battery box to this as it is pretty simple and uses the common 24F batery Ford used for decades. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1967-1968-1...oAAOSw03lY4ocj

It seems an AGM is not made in this series as for little demand from buyers. The FORD SCRIPT 29NF AGM is a specially made battery for this type retro-fit and is expensive. The 29NF case size is L=13 - W=5 1/2in - H=9in The 24F case size is L=10 3/4in - W=6 3/4in - H=9in Waiting for JeffB2COOL to respond to tray swap description. Can you measure your tray size? There were two sizes offered.

Re: Glass Matt Battery
I'm OK with the price doubling, but I don't need the script.

Re: Glass Matt Battery
It's the 29NF. No holes under, so the other tray will only work it I start drilling. PRETTY DARN NICE car, so I don't think I want to do that. Guess I'll go back with the 29NF-VHD that Interstate sells. I load tested my current one, and after 5 yrs it still passes. Sometimes upgrading just doesn't work out.
Thanks Gents. |

Re: Glass Matt Battery
A modification such as this is reversible. No harm, no foul.

Re: Glass Matt Battery
Yeah, but I'm thinking about trying to sell the intake carb, breather, and linkage assembly. Heck I can never sell anything. If I do its some obscene cheap price. The 2 barrell worked great after I tanked it and rebuilt it. Thin had the wrong jets, and the wrong float. Heck even the jets were different sizes from left to right! LOL The guys at Jegs told me they never ever saw that before! LOL LOL LOL
I tell ya, that tri-power sure is a converastion starter. 2 secondary carbs, and 1 primary carb complete with choke and all the goodies. |

Re: Glass Matt Battery
Was the take-off a 2V or 4V?
Wish the photo would load. EDEL 573 intake?

Re: Glass Matt Battery
It came through with a 292CI-2V?
You might want to hang onto to it as if you sell the car in the future it may increase the sale value.

Re: Glass Matt Battery
Guess I think I never had any luck selling anything unless I basically cut the price in half. Guess I think the carb and intake are just taking up space.

Re: Glass Matt Battery
The 2V only got like 11.9 MPG at 70 MPH.

How does the TRI-POWER do on fuel, if you can keep your foot out of it ... Nice looking setup.

Re: Glass Matt Battery
I don't know since I have not taken it on a trip yet. I checked the factory 2V on a trip from Columbus, Ohio to Marietta to visit an auction. They had a few parts too that I wanted to bid on. Oddly enough, they had a tri-power set up (used, and sat in a barn for a while) but someone kept bidding (North Carolina), and ended up paying an awful price for it. I'm not sorry I missed it, and ended up with the Holley 94s.
The tri-power has all the right stuff, and I'm picky. I wanted reliability, so ya pay the price for that. I spent months working on getting everything just right. I'd say the MPG is probably about the same. It might even be just a bit better. I try to drive it more just to keep the gasoline turned over in the thing. Being a retractable I do tend to drive it more in the summer. I have my share of collector cars, so keeping them all exercised is a bit to keep up with. Good problem to have I guess. |
