Default Brakelight ant turning light

I have a strange problem with my "Little Green Roadster" which I haven't been able to solve.

If I switch my left turning signal and brake at the same time, the brake light goes out. If I turn right and brake, it works correctly.

Anyone familiar with this phenomenon?

Hi Werner,

The only thing I can think of is to check to see if the the brakes are wired through the turn indicator switch. The wire from the brake light switch should to to the indicator switch. The turn indicator and the brake bulbs are the same. When turning and stopping, one blinks and the other stays lit. Other than that, I have no idea.

Check all of your grounds. Funny things happen when the electrons don't have an easy path back to the battery...

I don't know how your system is wired but "normally" the turn signal and brake light share the same filament in the bulb so the brake light should go out when the turn signal is on. Otherwise you couldn't see it flashing.

Guten Morgen!

An Y-Blockhead:
I have connected all electrical consumers to the frame with an additional copper braid, a bad ground connection cannot be the cause.

An nkaminar:
In the indicator switch, many previous owners have soldered many wires differently. Is there perhaps a wiring diagram of how these indicator switches are wired?

Dankeschön!

https://www.grote.com/wp-content/upl...ng-diagram.pdf

That switch is not very common, but most drawings don't show the internal switch contacts. The brake switch wire is routed to the TS switch and divided between the two rear lamps.

A lot of big thanks for the detailed switch-informations. That's a very great help!

The brake light system hits both left and right rear lamps at the same time through the one switch. When a turn signal switch is installed, the brake light power is split inside the turn signal switch to function the two bulbs individually. When a turn is selected, the brake light circuit is opened on the flashing side but still closed on the non flashing side.

If the brake light is not functioning on the non-selected tail light side when brakes are applied then the turn signal switch is remaining open for brake light function for that side. I don't know the configuration of the internals on your turn signal switch so that is about all I can mention. You will know the light circuit is good if the signals flash on both sides. The switch likely has separate contacts for the two functions inside so one may be dirty or damaged in some way.

That was a correct guess. Now I have recognized the problem. Of the 7 wires entering the switch, 2 were misrouted and the lid was forcing them onto the lower round copper contact disc. As a result, a tiny sliding contact is slightly bent.

I had to search a long time, because it worked properly disassembled, but not after screwing down the lid back together!

Thanks again to the forum and the many patient helpers!
