Ford Folks,
Got the call that my engine was tweaked on the crank and rods, and reassembled. John and I went to pick it up yesterday.


Good to have it back in the shop. Looks like a winter project at this point. The exterior house project is consuming most of my time. With the weather getting colder it is my priority for then next month.

Chris, Glad to hear the good news on your engine. You'll have it banging away before long. We're doing some house repairs too, painting, new carpets and windows and a few doors.

Ford folks,
Weather has gone to instant fall. Haven't had the 32 out since the fair. Just got the V8 TIMES, what a great magazine! Thanks to those that take the time to produce it for all of us!
The house project has me in a headlock. Probably about 60% complete. All the old vinyl was removed, then 28 sheets of the old black homosite material replaced with 1/2 osb. House wrap, then 13 new windows. Bottom portion is getting the stacked stone look , while the top will be vinyl that matches the shop. Several helpers at times, but a lot of me time! Like our cars and truck it will be a fresh look on a 40 year old house.
Hope things are good in Ford land!

My brother brought these old reflector sets to go with the old truck. Not sure of the age? but they are pretty cool! A set of three in a plastic case.

Ford Folks,
As I start to get a grip on my house project, the engine work for the 32 comes to mind:


Mart would have had this changed out several times by now! I have to age things like a fine wine! Moved the truck into position in the bay with the jib crane:


I think the engine will be the Ford green for a fresh look. What do you think? My other option would be to leave it a natural raw metal look?


Since the rest of the truck is not going to get painted. The engine prep and color has to be reviewed soon: I dont think I will paint it black like this one. Not going to run this much more due to water in the oil, and the oil leak at the rear of the engine. It sure was nice to have the truck mobil for the last year to get some seat time, work out some bugs, go to several car shows and meet some new friends. Really glad David G and Michael D got to drive the truck at the Franklin meet. A real highlight for me!
I bet I put a 200 miles or more on the truck as it is now.


The floor heat is ready to warm the shop when the weather gets cold. I believe I have most of the parts I need to do the engine swap, so it will just happen at some point. I think I will just pull the engine and not the transmission.
Stay tuned as te 32 gets a upgrade!

I think I'd go the standard Ford green, with all the other parts black as Henry did them. Heck, I'd even paint the outside of the alternator - such that it doesn't stand out so much! LOL

Great minds think alike on the alternator. Ok I am a rule breaker, with the 32 and the alternator swap. But it sure works nice with the lights and starting! Question will it harm the alternator if painted as a unit? Light coats of rattle can?? As usual I am lazy and have not taken one apart.

Yes, that is a classic picture of you in my 32 Dump truck at the show, and a couple folks you have mentored along the way! I will add this one too!


I have been fairly quite on the Ford Barn this fall as our house was the project for this year. The house is 40 years old, needed a face lift. it was a light yellow vinyl with green T-111 under the overhang. We removed the old exterior, replaced 26 sheets of old Celotex with 1/2 inch OSB. House wraped the place, 13 new windows, Two new man doors in garage, will get new garage OH doors. upper is gray vinyl that matches the shop. Lower is a stacked stone vinyl material. Like most of my projects, This is not at all a high end home just trying to do some upgrades. Getting to the stage where I won't want to take on these projects on another 10 years!

I also have been having fun with John Kelley as I learn about his 42 Ford Deluxe and Flathead Ford power units.
His 42 and the 32 swaped places in the shop. One step closer to getting that fresh "B" engine in the truck too!

I do need a good dose of Billy Joe about now! Lets crank up the ragged ole truck!!

Well yesterday was cool wet and dreary. John and I spent most of the day in the shop. About mid day John decided we should pull the B engine. He began wrenching as I removed various parts to keep up with him. Always good to have someone helping.
My plan was to just pull the engine only, and leave the tranny in place. I had not done this the first time and got cold feet as we begen to lift the engine. A couple phone calls to friends Robert and David confirmed that sure, the B engine can be removed by carefully raising the front of the tranny, and lifting/ tilting the engine to just barely miss the front crossmember with the crank pulley.
We regrouped and within a few minutes the Tennesee engine was out on the floor.
This engine provide me with much fun this past year! Big Thanks to Michael Driskell!!

While we were removing that, friend Jim stopped in and rebuilt a carb on his new Cockshut 40 pulling tractor. Good place to hang out and do some small jobs too.

So now I have additional dissassembly work and evaluation of B engine parts. Then begins the build process for the new short block B.
(I call it the Monkey Ward engine, as it was ordered through Montgomery Wards in Greenville PA, as a replacement for the original truck engine sometime around 1940 ish??)

I have some wiring and clean up to do as I was in prototype stage when I put it together last year.

I am considering going to Deaborn meet in 2023. Cheryl and I had a good time at our first National event. As usual I procrastinate very well!
