Well...here we go!
Hello all.
Well, a new adventure has started! Less than 30 days ago, I purchased my first Model A. It's a 1930 two door Tudor ( say that quickly three times! )! Overall, it's been an adventure. I'm just learning how things work and how to take care of it (starting it has been a real blast! - so many steps). I knew nothing about Model A's, outside of I liked how they looked and sounded. So, I've been looking thru the forum and wanted to take a moment out to say "Hello" and "What a wealth of information!" and "I'm looking forward to learning more and getting to know all y'all!" I know this is probably a cheesy and corny post, but that car brings a smile to my face every time I think about it - kinda like the reactions I get from others as I drive by and hit the horn. Who knew things could be this fun! |

Re: Well...here we go!
My situation is similar. We've owned ours for about 6 weeks. It was a total impulse buy. Woke up that morning not looking for a Model A. Didn't know anything about them. Saw the car, love the look, took my wife to see it, we bought it. It is a lot of fun and we are learning a lot. We have done a lot of the maintenance together. I do however feel like I'm just waiting for something to break. It seems like there is no way a car this old should just start up when I want it to and take me around town running errands and yet, it does. Just came back from the post office in it. Super cool.

Re: Well...here we go!
You are now infected with an incurable lifelong virus . I first fell in love with a model A in 1948 when I was 9 years old ,it belonged to a local trailer park owner . There are up times and down times but way mostly up . Sometimes I have so much fun I think surely this cant be legal !!!
John in hot sunny weather on the way Suffolk County England . 14 model A s some together some apart (with my son) . Of course with heavy infection you can get a bit carried away !!! |

Welcome to the Barn! You will truly enjoy your A! Keep it original unless a safety issue! Many buy an A and make it into something it was never intended to be!

Re: Well...here we go!
Thanks for the kind welcome. As far as I can tell, the only modifications it has is the removal of the parking / emergency brake (still puzzling the reason for that!) and an additional taillight on the driver's side. Outside of that, it's original - for better and for worse. I think it was sitting for quite some time, as it seems to run better the more I drive it. I'm trying to make it my daily, since my commute is short.
I don't have any social media, so once I figure out how to post pictures, I'll add a link. |

Change the oil if you have not already, and fuel filter. A tuneup may be in order since it sat so long. Where are you from in Illinois? I'm from Streator originally. Jack Bahm has a series of you tube videos that are worth watching.

Be careful..... Model A's are like potato chips. You can't eat just one.
Years from now as you peruse your stable of Model A's remember this. Every so often one will follow you home just like a lost puppy and you will have to save it...... |

Re: Well...here we go!
Been driving them since 1962. The 29 Sport Coupe in our garage we have owned since 1980. It was in a barn for many years before we found it, and started right. Still running strong after all these years.
What other car or machine for that matter would last 90 plus years in the same numbers as a Model A Ford. Plus still be everyday useable? Don’t over think it! Just enjoy your new family member. |

Re: Well...here we go!
Hello Snapper, I am happy for you. I was in your shoes in April, 1964, having purchased a 1930 Town Sedan. I had just gotten out of college and with a new job, I found a life long hobby. They are loads of fun, you need to find your local club for even more friends and adventures. I do caution you, they are like potato chips, I now have a 31 Cabriolet, 1930 Victoria, 1932 Coupe and a 1914 Model T Touring. Good luck to you, Ed

Re: Well...here we go!
My story is similar to yours, always wanted one. I was a small boy, visited a Great Uncle who had a pickup, still remember my awe when seeing the huge head lights and swirling fenders at my eye level.
I to get so much pleasure from driving the car and getting all the thumbs up and smiles, it really is a positive vehicle. HOWEVER if you are like me who struggles with a wrench in your hand, it can be most humbling as well. All the best in your Model A ownership. Gerry Birch Bay WA |
