Master cylinder
I have a club member with hydraulic brakes on and a Model. All early Ford parts. I installed a new master cylinder, but I have a leak at the copper washer. Where can I get a new one? MAC s list it, but doesn’t have it, has no idea when, because made in China. Napa lists it but the same thing Any help would be grateful.

Re: Master cylinder
Try annealing it, it may be to hard to seal.

Re: Master cylinder
Thanks, I will if I can’t get a new one. Which is preferred.

Re: Master cylinder
Harley Davidson uses these.
Size may be an issue. Try an aftermarket car parts store? Karl |

Re: Master cylinder
I had the same problem on my 49. Tried two washers instead of one and it stopped my leak.

Re: Master cylinder
We’re these hard washers? I thought they used soft ones.

Re: Master cylinder
You need to anneal the copper washer to soften it so that it will seal. Heat it to a cherry red color and quench it in a bucket of cold water.

Re: Master cylinder
I used the hard ones that i bought at NAPA. The old style soft ones are hard to find. Mike at 3rd GEN gave me the tip to try two washers.

Re: Master cylinder
I have also found new washers are in many cases too hard and need to be annealed.
Just heat them up red hot and quench or let air cool, either way works. Guessing globally sourced copper washers are manufactured differently then the old washers we used to get. I usually anneal and reuse the old washers at the banjo fittings as they seem to be a size not to be found at day-to-day parts stores. |
