I am the Moderator and founder of this group,we started off as the 1952-56 Ford Group in May 2009 two years later we expanded it to include 1957-59's. When the H.A.M.B. did it's infamous "upgrade" it killed off a lot of build pictures and obsoleted the links, little by little I and other members have worked to restore as much as we can. You will notice the very first line at the top of our Group is "FAQ" this is our big information file this is for sharing and storing information ONLY. NEVER post questions there, use the regular forum for questions and comments.

(You have insufficient privileges to post here.)

I gave up on HAMB years ago but want to view your board. What is the secret to admission?

Exclamation Re: JeffB2

While CAROUSING WITH MY BROWSER ...

I came across a description on a 56 where the guy did not use the anchor pin shoe plate only the eyelet of the cable to hold the retracting springs down. I don't think so...

Post Re: JeffB2

Maybe the answer?

HD and PI had longer anchor bolts. I assume it was for thicker gauge return spring(s) used.

The other problem would be having the correct holes in the shoe to accept the self-adj hardware. There are latter shoes that will adapt.

You will need to join the hamb to get access to Jeff's '52-'59 Ford social group.

Then follow the tutorial. HRP

I joined HAMB years ago but was not impressed with all the drama. I got to the SOCIAL GROUP but saw no data. Maybe my security clearance was pulled?

THANX anyway ...

Not nearly as much drama now and what some may perceive as drama is worth putting up with for the good info there, IMHO

We have done a pretty good job of keeping the drama out of the 1952-59 Ford Social Group over the years it can be "open season" at times on the main board, but it seems folks are getting a lot more thin skinned these days

The 1952-54 Ford cars use the same brake shoes as the 1967-68 Mustang V8 so the self adjuster conversion uses those parts. This video shows them being replaced https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBa2...ture=emb_title I have a list of the part numbers needed. What it all comes down to is finding a later model car that used the same shoes as the 50's Ford and installing the matching hardware and adjuster kits. The ex-member that did the original post went on a rant over a post he found as political and has blocked me and all the pictures and links from the Group that had helped a lot of guys over the years.

OK ...

Finally got thru the shields and found the thread.

The main reason it is so difficult to retrofit a 54/56 is the height of the anchor pin, it is too short to accept the retaining plate and the cable eyelet. In this instance it was alleviated by not using the anchor plate and replacing it with a small washer.

I don't think so.

Using a small Dremel drum to gain clearance on the anchor plate ended up being the solution, taking off just enough to allow the springs to seat.

The original poster mentioned that he found some thinner plates in his misc parts bin and used those, the guys that used the Dremel were folks that didn't have any spares laying about so you might do some digging instead of grinding.

That seems much more plausible. If that retainer snapped you would have one heck of a problem.

I had a friend with a small machine shop thin (surface grind) the plates for me for my TBird. Been on the car for 15 years with no problems. Car has been made two coast to coast trips that way, as well as many other shorter long trips.
