A WWII chaplin was famously quoted as saying "there are no atheists in foxholes" (or words to that effect). There are no "purists" except those guys who are not selling their cars and are critical of somebody who sold their car to an individual who stepped up and met the price.

Carpenter's repo '40 body is pretty pricey as I remember seeing it.

I believe Bob Drake is reproducing the 1940 Ford coupe. Not Dennis Carpenter. And the price for a body in pieces is around 17k unassembled.

Just had a nice 30 Coupe that just became a street rod here in Quincy. The guy paid around 10 K for the car; all he wanted was the body. I contacted a A'er in another city who is restoring a roadster. He contacted the rodder, came to Quincy, and purchased the complete running gear, including engine, radiator and shell, the front and rear fenders and front splash ( all nice sheetmetal, no broden beads); he got the package for 2,500.oo.
The rodder wouldn't let him have the hood for that price. He let me have the hood for 300.oo; very minimal wear at the hood hooks, no bent loovers, etc.

At least the important parts, except for body, are in the hands of A'ers.

The rodder has already sectioned the body top and lowered it to a point that the windows are only about 6" wide; he even cut all the garnish mouldings to fit the new windows. By the time he is done he will have a mint invested !!!!

OK, you guys started it! We hear the line: "it's your car do what you want with it" true but to chopp a Model A that someone has taken care of for all those years is obscene. I am building a late 31 Roadster with a Brookville body I think it is cost efective to build a rod the same way without ruining an original body. Cutting up an original body is like taking stone from a monument to build an out-house. Don't get me wrong I like hotrods just don't ruin any original parts, no it's not paranoia it's just there are a limited number of Model A's and re-po parts are cheap and easy -- kind of like Model A guys!
