39` syncro trans in 30` roadster

Hey Guys, I`am looking to put a 39` syncro trans in my 30` roadster. My question is: How do I tell the difference from the standard and deluxe trans?
I was told that the deluxe is better. I also need to find the company that offered the adapter kit to install this trans in the model A. The roadster is all stock. Is there any thing to think about as far as the drive shaft is concerned or will the adapter kit deal with this? Are the shifting forks different from standard and deluxe? Not asking for much am I? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

I dont think that there is any gain to this exercise, what is your intention?

Model A transmission is a totally different animal from the '32 up to '48 transmissions. Different internally and externally. You might be able to fit a Model B transmission to an A engine and use the later (including synchro 2nd and high) gears in that transmission. What appears to me to be a better option is a Mitchell transmission which would give you synchro in a Model A case. Here's a link...

Spend a few minutes reading up on the Ford early 3 speed trannies on our website. It should help explain the differences. Not all 39 transmissions are the same . Klings has the best adapter kit. I think it's also available thru Snyder Model A Parts.

We build these transmissions. If you don't have a good core for a rebuild, we can build one for you. There may also be other competent builders near you. Ask around for recommendations.

Thanks guys for all the info. This gives me a good starting point as to what I need to do to accomplish what I want to do. My main reason is that I haven`t mastered this double clutching business. I know about the Mitchell trans but is a bit pricy for me.

There is a kit being offered to put a T5 transmission in a Model A. I believe he is a member here. If I can remember his name, will add it later.

I have a 29 roadster, and drive it all the time. I don't double clutch all the time mainly when I shift from second to first, when you up shift do it slowly shit into neutral and count to three. find a big open parking lot and master your shifting. I did that , and I can shift with out a clutch. with some time you will be a master

On the Model A trans, make sure you've got the correct gear oil in it. Double clutching is easy but may take some practice.

the upgrade would be the 3 spd od or the s10 5 spd od both not that hard and no double clutching, plus the od is real easy on the motor. if you still want to go the 39 trans you can put a Volvo od unit in the torque tube that's a real nice setup.

Just for clarity, do you actually need to do that into neutral!!! Even done slowly, that'll take some body moves, let alone getting your pants down in time!
