1935 Roof Wooden Bows

My friend is having trouble with the wooden bows for the roof of his 1935, it looks like the center wooden bow is high compared to the other two.

These are original from the car, as is the wooden dome light mount.

I've attached some pictures. Is there a way to know which wooden cross piece goes in which spot, and is the dome light mounted correctly with its wire feeding to the rear of the car?

Hi Kirk with a 3 window coup the light should be at the front with the switch facing forward , ,the bows look a little low but you need to make room for the stuffing .try that and see how it looks ,

Can't add anything concerning the bows , but I think his dome light wood is reversed front to back. If the parts haven't been separated and put back together maybe the bow in the middle belongs on the rear - i.e. the whole assembly got reversed(?). Looks like he's doing a nice job. Here's a couple of pictures of presumed originals. Good luck.

My description is different than yours (I could be wrong though ) I thought the chicken mesh went on first .some one else might chime in ,

Ted you are correct the chicken mesh does go on first and then the padding. I've put several of those tops on old Fords and all them require the chicken wire on first.

While it's not original I quit using chicken wire a long time ago and went to tempered Masonite on top of the bows under the padding and cover. Maybe I'm lazy but I thought it was easier?

Do not know if there will be a difference but notice how the top bows are originally attached to the body with the formed metal plates and countersink head screws. The original attachment hardware takes up a bit less room than the washers locks and round head bolts.

My comment on the chicken wire is that if you install a radio the chicken wire is soldered to the radio antenna wire and becomes the antenna.

For 35 and 36 Ford Coupes and Sedans there also was an optional running board antenna as well as an optional one on the spare tire carrier.
