Default '41 - '48 Cowl vent alignment

I am in the process of refitting the cowl vent to one of my '42 Sedan Delivery's, can anybody offer any instructions on how to get the alignment just right. It's a little hit and miss at the moment and I'd like to minimize the time I spend upside down under the dash

Bob Drake has a 6 page illustrated set of instructions: Installation Instructions 01A-426-HK is the document number. I used it for my '41 cowl vent and everything works very well.

Joe, I don't see where to get those instructions on Bob Drake's website. How can I get them? Thanks, Dave

It doesn't say a lot about the process for correct alignment though

Thanks Rich. I've never seen instructions so detailed from Drake! Alignment instructions are still vague though.

I actually had to cut the arms and reweld them on my 46 to get it to pull down all the way. And it still leaks. Used a drake seal.

I sent you an email form a year ago where I was having problems with my cowl vent. I hope it helps.

I went through the same issue with my 48. Came to the conclusion I should have fitted the vent prior to installing the rubber gasket.

How would that have helped?

It seems the gasket was lifting it. Wondered if the repo gaskets were thicker.

Possible, I suppose. That didn't make any difference with my F1 which has the same basic design as the 46-48 cars.

Some of the repo gaskets are too thick. There is another thread on that topic currently (or very recent) on the Barn.
