Speedy sleeves are designed for oil seals to ride on. We used to send shafts out to have the worn journals built up with hard chrome in a plating process then precision ground back down to specs. It was expensive but helicopter transmission shafts are a way lot more expensive. Those armatures are still out there for a decent price so a plating & machining process wouldn't be worth the cost. Knurling might work but the metal can only be displaced so much. If there is a lot of wear, it may not be possible to get it back to a tight and centered journal surface any more. Even with knurling, the old Loctite 680 on the journal would be a good idea. If a person turned the shaft journal down and installed a sleeve, it would have to be pinned to insure it can't spin.
The machine work to do stuff like this might be cost prohibitive unless the person has there own machines and does the work themselves. Last edited by rotorwrench; 10-24-2017 at 10:00 AM. |

as far as motoring a gen . It wont hurt it at all . My white mower has a gen that is starter and generator.

The starter generators generally have two sets of windings. The field windings on a generator are fine wire and for a starter they are heavy wire. Putting too much torque through fine windings generates a lot of heat that can cause fatigue on thin copper wire. I like to make my parts last as long as possible.
